The Fish Hoek Civic Centre roof was raised with roars of side-splitting laughter at the recently hosted Two Oceans Toastmasters annual Humorous and Impromptu Speech Competition.
After seven prepared humourous speeches and five impromptu presentations, the judge’s pencils came to a rest and the top two places for each category were announced: Verity Price and Reto Camichel walked away with the first and second places in the impromptu category while and Jeremy Fenn and Chris Smiley bagged first and second places in the humorous prepared category.
Says Marion Thomas, a longstanding Two Oceans club member and Toastmasters’ Division D Governor, “The Humorous and Impromptu Speaking Contest is a date that I enthusiastically anticipate on my calendar... I was thoroughly entertained and wowed by the calibre of speeches. I have no doubt that the winners will do the club proud ... I will have a difficult task remaining neutral in my support of all the clubs as they progress to the divisional round of the contest. I look forward to seeing Two Oceans in action at both the area and division round of the contests. Thanks for lifting our spirits with an evening of sheer delightful entertainment!”
The Two Oceans Executive Committee (EXCO) would like to thank the local community for their fantastic support of this event; there was standing room only on the night due to all the guests that arrived to support this occasion.
The four champs will move to the Area contest, which takes place on 26 August; then hopefully to the Division contest on 11 September and finally District in Johannesburg on 3 October.
Two Oceans Toastmasters meets the first Wednesday of every month, in the Minor Hall at the Fish Hoek Civic Centre from 7pm. Guests are welcome to attend free of charge.
