Jacob Zuma opens FAW plant | News in a flash

President Jacob Zuma opened the First Automotive Works (FAW) manufacturing plant on Thursday, 10 July 2014. 

FAW is a member of the Fortune 500 and one of China's largest automotive companies.

The plant is the newest addition to the Coega IDZ in the Eastern Cape.

Phase 1 of the project will produce 5,000 trucks pa and create around 350 jobs. A second phase in on the cards, which will produce 30,000 cars pa and create a further 600 jobs.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) aims to double vehicle production in the country by 2020 while deepening the components manufacturing sector at the same time.
