GEA Refrigeration Africa (Pty) Ltd is part of the Refrigeration division of the GEA Group. The companies within the GEA Refrigeration division design, engineer, install, and maintain components and systems for clients where cooling technology is an essential part of their primary process.

GEA Refrigeration Africa is a market leader in industrial and transport refrigeration in Southern Africa. GEA Refrigeration Africa has 11 branches within South Africa and one in Tanzania. Key markets are food and non-food, transport refrigeration, tail lifts, truck and trailer accessories, mobile heating systems, food processing, distribution and storage, mining, oil, gas, chemicals, utilities, marine, ice-plants and project management. With a broad range of components, extensive know-how and worldwide branches, the Refrigeration division can meet the needs and requirements of clients all around the world.

The first Managing Director of the company was Bill Hope and one of the earliest installations was for Braam’s Meat at the Cape Town Foreshore. Around this time the fishing industry was thriving and Irvin & Johnson was one of our first clients. Together with Grenco’s parent company, a fleet of twelve trawlers were installed with refrigeration.

With its head office situated in Cape Town, GEA Grenco Africa has branches in Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Nelspruit, Richards Bay, George, Boland, Newcastle, Worcester, Polokwane and, most recently, in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

Grenco Africa has an annual turnover in excess of R300m and has a total work force of approximately 220 personnel.
