CDC adds three “new” COVID-19 symptoms

As research on COVID-19 progresses and more information comes to light, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updates the public on details such as symptoms of the virus.

The public has been made aware of several symptoms that have been identified in relation to COVID-19, such as a fever and shortness of breath. Now, the CDC has added three more possible symptoms to their list: congestion/runny nose, nausea, and diarrhea.

These were not on the initial list released in late April, according to Forbes.

“People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus,” the CDC states.

The full list of symptoms are:

– Fever or chills
– Cough
– Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
– Fatigue
– Muscle or body aches
– Headache
– New loss of taste or smell
– Sore throat
– Congestion or runny nose
– Nausea or vomiting
– Diarrhea

“This list does not include all possible symptoms. CDC will continue to update this list as we learn more about COVID-19,” the CDC adds.

Anyone who experiences these symptoms can call the Western Cape provincial hotline on 021 928 4102 or mail the Department of Health at doh.dismed@westerncape.gov.za
