E-learning is getting a boost with high-quality digital textbooks

E-learning is well on its way to enter a mature phase of development, as its advantages have been demonstrated beyond any doubt.

In fact, we are currently witnessing an increased tendency to switch to digital learning materials, including interactive e-textbooks that offer multiple advantages over traditional, printed books.

There is currently a race to create high-quality textbooks that would be popular with students, and many companies are offering very innovative ideas in this regard.

Electronic textbooks allow far more proactive approach to learning and liberate each student to advance on his own pace.

More affordable than printed textbooks

Educators around the world are well aware that price of textbooks can be a limiting factor that prevents young people from receiving adequate education, and are actively searching for more affordable solutions.

Digital textbooks cost up to 80% less than hard copies, which is quite a dramatic decrease that allows almost anyone to gain access to state-of-the-art educational resources.

The economic argument is largely responsible for the changing attitudes of major institutions towards e-textbooks, signaling their more widespread adoption in the near future.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if many colleges and universities went completely digital within the next five years.

New ways to learn

Let’s face it – printed books don’t allow for a whole lot of experimentation and force students to advance in a predetermined way.

Digital textbooks afford much more freedom for students while also providing excellent test-preparation tools such as personalized notes or study guides.

Students can also choose to listen to audio readings of the content or to look up unfamiliar words quickly and effortlessly.

E-learning tools allow for easy sharing of personalised content between classmates, which improves group learning and strengthens the team spirit.

Software is catching up as well

Many schools around the world are giving out tablets or laptops to students, motivating them to develop proactive learning habits.

Innovative software products represent the missing piece of the puzzle that will enable optimal utilization of the already available hardware resources.

The next several years could be a critical period for the adoption of digital textbooks, as both educational institutions and the next generation of students need to become completely comfortable with them.

The future of Edutech

Arrival of well-rounded, easy-to-use products is a welcome development, which is why the industry is attentively watching the results that e-textbooks are achieving.

It remains to be seen how the market at large will react, but this could be the beginning of a new trend that finally unlocks the potential for improving educational quality worldwide.
