New Cape building modelled after Rubik’s Cube

A new edition of modern architecture will grace Cape Town’s CBD in 2021. This unique structure will be built to resemble a Rubik’s Cube and will be fittingly named “The Rubik”. Construction of the building is expected to kick off this June.

The Rubik will be a luxury mixed-use building and will be situated in the heart of the Mother City. It is an entirely new kind of property development in South Africa with its iconic and unique architecture design.

Located on the corner of Loop and Riebeek Street, The Rubik will consists of premium residential apartments above luxury offices and high-end retail space, housed within a distinctive modern glass-clad “tiered” building that is reminiscent of a Rubik’s Cube in the middle of its faces being rotated.

Marketed by Dogon Group Properties, developed by Abland – one of South Africa’s leading property developers – in partnership with Nedbank and Giflo and designed by DHK Architects, the apartments, penthouses and offices within The Rubik feature floor-to-ceiling windows, 24 hour concierge security, state-of-the-art technology, fixtures and finishes, minimalist elements, and lots of clean, open spaces.

If these features weren’t enough, the prime location will also offer spectacular views over Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and the ocean. With prices starting at R2.4-million, these luxury apartments and office units will offer a highly desirable inner-city lifestyle.

“The beautiful and modern The Rubik has a distinctly international feel that is in tune with global trends and influences,” says Rob Stefanutto, MD of Dogon Group Developments. “This exciting building, which will stand as a design beacon in Cape Town’s CBD, allows buyers to live and work in a distinctive space within the bustling centre of one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Loop Street is vibrant and cosmopolitan, known for its night life, historic buildings, art galleries, antique shops, restaurants, bars, and cafés.”

“This DHK-designed building echoes things to come in the city centre – the wave of the future. Gone are the days of inner-city living being a novelty, and enter the days of “Great City Addresses” that are inspiring to live in. Dogon’s ongoing commitment to bringing cutting-edge projects to market is apparent in The Rubik,” says Stefanutto, “it will set a benchmark for future developments and see both out-of-town and local buyers being offered a truly quality product in a city on the rise in international terms.”

Building of The Rubik will commence in June 2019, with completion of the modern structure planned for July 2021.

“When this property came up for sale, we wasted no time in its acquisition as the location is perfect for a mixed-use development. Abland have undertaken numerous high-rise developments in the Cape Town CBD and we are very excited to bring this vision to life,” says Jurgens Prinsloo, Abland’s Regional Manager.

Prinsloo explains that the building will offer doubled-glazed office windows as the building will have a modern glass facade, an air-conditioning system that doesn’t use water evaporation for cooling, energy-efficient lighting, and water heating systems which are aligned with green-star initiatives.

Abland always ensures that they provide all the key aspects needed to create the perfect living conditions for customers, from location, access to amenities, transport, security, sustainability, and connectivity to retail environments.

“We are very excited to be involved in this project conceptualised by Abland, who have been at the forefront of creating ground-breaking spaces in South Africa for over 30 years, and who have pioneered mixed-use developments that seamlessly integrate work and living spaces. We believe that The Rubik will redefine the design of luxury mixed-use developments in South Africa, and offers a wonderful opportunity for those who wish to buy-to-live or those looking for a premier investment opportunity,” says Stefanutto.
