New electric vehicle charging station benefits local businesses

South Africa’s first electric vehicle road trip Africa (EVRT Africa) brought to the country by Generation.e, has launched a new electric vehicle charging station powered by ACDC Dynamics at the Vineyard Hotel in Newlands, Cape Town, on 9 October 2019.

Ben Pullen, CEO at Generation.e says: “Launching charging stations powered by ACDC Dynamics is not only part of creating a network of charging stations for our road trip, but also to contribute to the infrastructure for electric transportation in South Africa in order to fast track the country towards adopting smarter mobility.”

Mario Maio, CEO at ACDC Dynamics, says, “This network will continue to lay the foundation for mass expansion across South Africa to support smarter mobility. Our goal is to make smarter mobility options a reality for all South Africans by providing a national charging network and the technology to support it.”

As an entrepreneur, Maio believes electric vehicle charging will create opportunities for local businesses.

Pullen agrees and points out that one sector which will benefit is the tourism industry which is a large contributor to the economy of the country. “Launching charging stations at local hotels, such as the Vineyard, not only provides direct opportunities for their business, but also has a knock-on effect on the surrounding restaurants and tourist attractions that will benefit from an increase of thoroughfare in the area of those who are needing to charge an electric vehicle.”

“The Petousis Group of hotels has always focused on sustainability and ‘Living Green’ – The Vineyard’s initiatives during the past drought led the Cape Town hospitality industry, and our on-going campaigns to radically reduce waste along with water and energy consumption have won several awards. We are delighted to be the first hotel in the Western Cape to offer its own AC and DC charging stations for electric vehicles and are in the process of purchasing our own electric vehicles to serve our guests,” says George Petousis, CEO of Petousis Family Holdings, owner of The Vineyard, Townhouse Hotel and Oude Werf Hotel.

“The opportunities that smarter mobility can offer to South Africa are endless, electric vehicles are just one example and we are excited for what the future holds for the country,” says Pullen.
