Plettenberg Bay SPAR opens its shelves to local businesses

Shelf space at a SPAR in Plettenberg Bay is being offered up to local stores and restaurants to help them survive the COVID-19 pandemic.

While grocery stores have been given the go-ahead by government to open their doors and serve the public, many restaurants and local businesses that could sell essential goods have been forced to close.

To do their bit for the local community and stores that can’t open their doors during the pandemic, the SPAR is offering local businesses the chance to sell their goods on SPAR shelves.

Residents have been deeply touched by the offer from the grocery store as it displays a clear sense of community dedication and consideration for others during these tough times.

For many restaurants, lockdown Level 4 is still too costly to open their doors, as they will be unable to pay operating costs on delivery income alone.

Many South Africans are enjoying Level 4 of the lockdown as they can order food from their local eateries but many restaurants have indicated they will not be opening yet because it is not feasible. The businesses know that they will not be able to pay all their costs by just delivering takeaways, and also not being able to sell alcohol.

The Beacon Isle KWIKSPAR decided to dedicate a section in their store to promote and support local businesses, with a clear sign asking patrons to support. No mark up is added to any items and all the money for every sale goes directly to the businesses.

While it may be a small gesture, it means a lot to businesses owners whose worlds have been turned upside down by the pandemic.
