VWSA recognised at annual Exporters Eastern Cape awards

  • VWSA honoured with the SJM Flex Environmental Award for the ninth time
  • The company also receives Merit Award in the OEM category

Volkswagen Group South Africa has been honoured with the SJM Flex Environmental Award for the ninth time at the 27th annual Exporters Eastern Cape awards. This award is given to an ISO 14001-accredited exporter who pursues excellence in environmental management. In addition to this title, VWSA received a Merit Award in the OEM Category.

The awards ceremony was held on Friday 21 October to give recognition to the province’s leading exporters. This occasion also marked the return of the in-person award ceremony, which was hosted virtually in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“As VWSA we are incredibly proud of this achievement, especially in a time where our industry continues to be severely impacted by semi-conductor shortages,” said Robert Cisek, VWSA Chairman and Managing Director. “VWSA remains committed to environmentally responsible manufacturing that contributes to the community of Nelson Mandela Bay, where we operate. Receiving an award such as this one prove that our commitment shows in the quality we deliver and the economic impact we are able to make. I am thankful for every employee who has contributed to our continued success.”

In 2021 VWSA exported a total of 89 373 Polos and 39 103 engines to export customers across the world.

Exporters Eastern Cape has been operating in the Eastern Cape for 42 years and is aimed at organisations involved in exporting, either directly or indirectly, and for organisations with an interest in exporting. These organisations represent industries such as automotive, pharmaceutical, agriculture and services. The judges for the Exporters Eastern Cape Awards come from varying backgrounds and sectors.
