Bearings 2000 acquires MCL

NATIONAL industrial supplies specialist, Bearings 2000, has acquired Gqeberha-based MCL Engineering Products. The acquisition will expand Bearings 2000โ€™s reach in the Eastern Cape and provide added value for customers in the region.

With similar backgrounds, values, and approaches to business, MCL and Bearings 2000 make an ideal fit.

โ€œAs a progressive business, we at Bearings 2000 are constantly evolving our methodologies and expanding our footprint in South Africaโ€™s bearings landscape to provide our customers with best-in-class products and service levels,โ€ says Bearings 2000 managing director, Ross Trevelyan.ย

MCL has been an SKF distributor for over three decades in the Eastern Cape and is acclaimed for reliable service and for bringing additional products such as gearboxes, conveyor rollers, linear motion, and energy chains to the region.ย

โ€œOur goal is to uphold these relationships and improve our market penetration by providing further value to clients,โ€ says Trevelyan. โ€œMoreover, the product offering will be strengthened with Bearings 2000โ€™s product range that will be available through the Gqeberha distribution hub.โ€ย

Products will include SKF, COOPER, COC, and DODGE premium brands of bearings, SYN, B2K, and FKD economical brands of bearings, and Dongil and SYN brands of power transmission. These product ranges and brands will be bolstered by products already available such as Bonfigioli gearboxes, Igus power chains, Interroll conveyor products, and THK linear motion brands.ย

As MCL transitions to become Bearings 2000 Gqeberha, it will become Bearings 2000โ€™s third coastal distribution hub, alongside those in Cape Town and Durban.

โ€œThe Gqeberha hub will reinforce our distribution capability in the area thereby broadening our reach, reducing delivery times, and providing our customers with improved availability and technical support through an extensive product suite and enhanced overall service,โ€ says Trevelyan.ย

Says Rodney McLagen, managing member of MCL: โ€œWith the added value of the Bearings 2000 Group โ€“ including larger stock holdings, new products and services, a level 1 B-BBEE rating and a procurement level recognition of 135%, as well as outstanding advanced systems, procedures, and competent staff and management โ€“ I am confident that Bearings 2000 Gqeberha will become a significant force in the Eastern Cape industrial supplies sector.โ€

Trevelyan adds: โ€œWe are set to expand on the vast history and relationships that MCL has created over decades of providing quality engineered products and superior service. Further, we want to notify potential sellers in the market that we are active in the acquisition space and looking for future business opportunities!โ€

The acquisition has the full backing of the brands that both companies distribute.ย ย ย
