The City of Cape Town’s new R101 million Sir Lowry’s Pass Village housing project is making steady progress. The project has commenced with the bulk earthworks and civil engineering for the provision of water for the project.
This new affordable housing project will provide 307 opportunities for the approved beneficiaries and the project is expected to be completed in early 2024, if all goes according to plan. The R101 million expenditure will include money for bulk earthworks; internal civil engineering services for the provision of water, sanitation and roads; electricity reticulation and street lighting; and free-standing and semi-detached single-storey units.
The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi was joined by officials in the City’s Human Settlements Directorate to check on the project’s progress.
‘We are pleased to see the exceptional progress we have made thus far. This project will provide much needed opportunities to the qualifying beneficiaries in the area and surrounding areas. The beneficiaries will become first-time property owners.
‘This project is another example of the City’s dedication to providing affordable housing opportunities to residents in areas across the metro. We thank the contractors and City staff for their hard work thus far, and we look forward to seeing the progress over the coming months. The selection of beneficiaries for all housing projects has been done in accordance with the City’s Allocation Policy and the City’s Housing Needs Register to ensure that housing opportunities are allocated to qualifying beneficiaries in a fair and equitable manner that prevents queue-jumping,’ said Councillor Booi.
