City’s Business Hub delivers practical support to thousands of Cape Town businesses

Since 2021, the City of Cape Town’s Business Hub has provided training, guidance and practical business support to thousands of entrepreneurs and enterprises across the metro.

Between January 2021 and June 2026, over 9 000 businesses were trained and supported through Business Hub programmes, while the Hub assisted with more than 14 000 business queries.

‘Behind every one of these numbers is an entrepreneur trying to build something, sustain jobs, reach new customers or take their business to the next level. Our role as a City is to make that journey easier by providing practical support that helps businesses become more capable, competitive and resilient,’ said Alderman James Vos, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth.

The Business Hub forms part of the City’s broader drive to make Cape Town the easiest place to do business by helping entrepreneurs navigate challenges, build their capabilities and connect with opportunities.

Available reporting data from July 2023 onwards shows direct support to 68 businesses through the Hub’s Productivity Efficiency Programme helped save 2 139 jobs. In addition, Business Hub-facilitated training and service-request resolution recorded satisfaction levels of between 92% and 96% since July 2023.

‘Effective business support is about whether a business is better equipped afterwards; whether it can improve its systems, compete for opportunities, access markets, become more productive and ultimately protect or create jobs.

‘That is why our programmes are designed around the real needs of businesses, recognising that entrepreneurs require different forms of support at different stages of their growth journey. Whether it is guidance on doing business with the City, procurement readiness, digitisation, improving operational efficiency or accessing new markets, our goal is to equip entrepreneurs with practical tools and opportunities that they can use to grow their businesses.

‘Our approach is therefore to keep improving the environment in which businesses operate, cutting unnecessary red tape, making City services easier to navigate, expanding access to practical support and connecting enterprises with opportunities to grow.

‘The numbers show substantial reach, but the work continues. We want more businesses to know that this support exists and, importantly, to use it. Our goal remains clear: to make Cape Town the easiest place to do business and a city where entrepreneurs have the best possible chance to start, grow and thrive,’ said Alderman Vos.
