FNB helps its customers by providing relief from high fuel and food prices

Against the backdrop of rising interest rates, record-high fuel and food prices that have increased the cost of living in South Africa, FNB has announced additional value-added benefits for individuals, families, and businesses in areas such as travel and groceries to help them stretch their Rands further.

FNB is delighted to announce the following relief measures that will be available from October until end December 2022:

  • Travel relief: Individual and business customers will continue to get an additional R2/L at Engen, Unlimited SLOW Lounge access and earn 10% back in eBucks on QuickBus tickets booked via the FNB App.
  • Grocery relief: Individual and business customers will earn double eBucks rewards on grocery spend at Usave/Shoprite/Checkers.
  • Spend relief: 100 individual and business customers could win 10x their annual eBucks spend back if they save their money by opting to pay using eBucks.

Raj Makanjee, CEO of FNB Retail, says, “Fuel and food prices are major contributors to the rising cost of living for many South African households. And hence, we believe that our timely benefits will alleviate some of the financial strain on individuals and families. We’re pleased to extend our fuel relief initiative, and we’re also providing additional benefits, such as discounted bus tickets and weekly grocery coupons. Our philosophy has always been to find ways to assist our customers in managing their money to make it go much further.”

With holiday travel approaching, FNB’s individual and business customers will be relieved to learn that the fuel relief campaign, which began in July of this year, has been extended until December 2022. This allows them to continue receiving an additional R2 per litre in eBucks for using their virtual card to pay for fuel at Engen, as well as performing one eCommerce transaction per month. Individual customers who fill up at Engen and have vehicle instalments with WesBank are still eligible for the Double Up benefit, where they earn up to R8 p/l per quarter in eBucks; these customers will now earn up to R10 p/l per quarter in eBucks. FNB is also providing qualifying customers unlimited complimentary access to SLOW Airport Lounges, the ability to earn 10% back in eBucks with QuickBus, which is available on the FNB App for booking bus trips with major bus operators.

As South African households continue to pay more for basic food items, FNB is offering grocery relief to individual and business customers who shop at Usave/Shoprite/Checkers. Customers with the FNB Easy Pay as you Use (PAYU) and Easy account will get double grocery coupons, while those using FNB Aspire will earn double their eBucks. Private Banking and Business customers get up to 30% off when paying with their Virtual Cards at any store.

Furthermore, 100 customers who spend their eBucks when shopping have the chance to WIN 10X their annual eBucks spend. Customers are encouraged to make their Rands go further by using their rewards to spend at 38 eBucks partners across South Africa.

Gordon Little, FNB Commercial CEO, Travel and the associated fuel costs can be a high expense for business customers. This can be anything from traveling to various regions for business meetings, transporting goods for customers and even arranging transport for employees. Our travel relief will go a long way in helping them navigate through tough times which impact on profit margins, placing additional pressure on the business. We encourage all qualifying business clients to maximise on the FNB eBucks incentives to limit the impact of inflationary pressures.”

FNB’s eBucks Rewards programme was recently recognised internationally for its Best Use of Technology and named the Middle East and Africa’s Regional Champion of the Year. It has also been ranked the Best Loyalty Programme in Financial Services for the last 3 years.

Additionally, FNB won Best Consumer Digital Bank in South Africa and Best Mobile Banking App in Africa. This was announced at the 2022 World’s Best Consumer Digital Bank Awards in Africa, hosted by Global Finance.
