Energyย Ministerย Mmamoloko Kubayi this week met with the board of governors of the South Africanย Petroleumย Industryย Association (SAPIA).
The meeting heldย on Mondayย sought to find ways of strengthening and improving working relations to find lasting solutions to the challenges facing theย petroleumย sector.
โThe meeting dealt with keyย industryย issues such as economic transformation; cleaner fuels, climate change, health safety, security and environment, security of supply and economic regulation.ย Ministerย Kubayi emphasised the importance of enhancing synergies for the benefit of the country, and impressed upon theย petroleumย industryย the need to ensure the provision of secure, sustainable and affordableย energy,โ said the Department ofย Energy.
Theย Ministerย held a fruitful introductory meeting with board of SAPIA which is responsible for advancing the collective interest of the petroleumย industryย and playing a strategic role in addressing issues relating to refining, distribution and marketing amongst its members.ย
The meeting further discussed the ongoing alignment of theย Petroleumย and Liquid fuels Charter to Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment and the Codes of Good Practice.
Acting chairperson of the association Maurice Radebe acknowledged the need for government andย industryย players to supportenergyย policies to strengthen relations in the interest of all.
Bothย Ministerย Kubayi and theย petroleumย sector leaders acknowledged that transformation is not only an economic but that it is also a social imperative for South Africa to have a sustainable future.
