Predictive maintenance services prevent costly downtime
BMG has introduced Regal Rexnord’s Premium Service programme to customers in the food and beverage sector. This predictive maintenance service combines on-site technical surveys with digital asset monitoring, to help bottlers identify conveyor issues before they lead to production downtime.
“Through Regal Rexnord’s Premium Service, we are able to offer our customers the tools necessary to plan maintenance accurately and avoid costly downtime,” explains Carlo Beukes, Business Unit Manager, BMG’s Power Transmission division, BMG. “Regal Rexnord’s digital monitoring platform is enhanced by our on-site expertise, to predict mechanical wear before it disrupts production, ensuring reliable operation of high-speed bottling lines.
“Regal Rexnord’s Premium Service applies condition-based inspection methods to conveyor chains, belts, sprockets and wear components. By measuring elongation, assessing surface damage and tracking chemical exposure, engineers can determine each component’s exact service life. Important data allows maintenance teams to plan replacements proactively and maintain high levels of efficiency on fast-moving packaging lines.
“This collaboration forms part of BMG’s strategy to provide proactive reliability services across Southern Africa’s food and beverage sector. The company’s Power Transmission division works closely with OEMs and production plants to align maintenance practices with international standards, reduce unplanned stoppages and extend the service life of critical equipment.”
In a recent project at a bottling plant in the Cape, BMG’s Power Transmission specialists worked alongside Regal Rexnord engineers to assess the Glass Line 1 conveyor system. The inspection found several belts with surface wear, module breakages and chain elongation above the recommended limits. The BMG team advised immediate replacement of critical items, supported by further recommendations to standardise chain types, install wear shoes on return tracks and use rubberised rollers to prevent top-surface damage.
All findings were uploaded to the Rexnord Connect Portal – an online platform that provides a real-time dashboard of conveyor assets. This portal allows maintenance managers to view every chain and sprocket on each line, track wear data and schedule interventions based on measured performance rather than fixed intervals.
BMG’s collaboration with Regal Rexnord offers integrated, world-class solutions that combine predictive analytics, on-site inspections and continuous digital reporting for bottling operations throughout the region.
