LED Lighting for GIZ Energy Efficiency projects

BEKA Schréder is proud to be part of an Energy Efficient Street Lighting Retrofit Project implemented by GIZ German Development Cooperation and Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), funded by the Swiss Government through the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), based on lighting solutions for four Lots in three municipal areas. These projects are based on a very stringent technical specification by GIZ and is followed by audited illumination outcomes.

The project, driven by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), comprised of supplying LED floodlights and LED streetlights for the National Pilot Project, which comprises of the following benefitting municipalities: Dr. Beyers Naudé Local Municipality in Graaff-Reinet (Eastern Cape), Ngwathe Local Municipality in Parys (Free State), and LED streetlights to iLembe District Municipality in KwaDukuza focusing on the three local municipalities of Ndwedwe, Mandeni and Maphumulo.

Based on the stringent technical requirements, a custom LED lighting solution was designed and submitted for evaluation on the tenders. BEKA Schréder’s South-African designed and manufactured LEDFLOOD floodlight and LEDLUME streetlight range have been found to be best suited for this project after a rigorous technical evaluation.

In a notable change of application, the LED colour temperature of 3000K was utilised for all highmast (area lighting) and lighting in residential areas commonly known as streetlighting, whereas 4000K was only utilised on the main roads.

For the highmast lighting, the LEDFLOOD-MIDI was the LED floodlight of choice. The LEDFLOOD range has been designed for area lighting applications whilst offering energy savings, low maintenance requirements and precise light control. The flexibility of the LensoFlex®4 photometric engine allows for multiple light distributions to ensure that the specific requirements of each application are met. The marine grade, high-pressure die-cast aluminium housing makes the LEDFLOOD suitable for installation in harsh environments.

The LEDLUME-MINI has been used to provide streetlighting in residential areas, whereas the larger LEDLUME-MIDI illuminates the main roads. The LEDLUME range offers optimised photometrical performance with a minimum total cost of ownership. It provides the ideal tool to generate energy savings, improve lighting levels and reduce maintenance costs. The great variety of high-performance optics optimises the photometric distribution for each specific application to achieve minimum energy consumption.

BEKA Schréder locally develops and manufactures energy-efficient LED lighting products, designed and suitable for local conditions.

We are very proud to be associated with GIZ, Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality, Ngwathe Local Municipality, and iLembe District Municipality in providing a successful LED lighting solution for this project.
