LED Lighting Solution for Western Cape Towns

The picturesque Western Cape towns of Ashton and Montagu have undergone an LED streetlighting upgrade, where old HID technology was replaced with an energy-efficient LED lighting solution.

BEKA Schrรฉder has supplied the LED lighting solution for this upgrade and has assisted in uplifting the two towns and increase the safety at night in the areas.

Ashton

The small town of Ashton has undertaken a streetlighting upgrade. This tied in with the construction of the new Ashton Arch Bridge, which is South Africaโ€™s first concrete tied arch bridge constructed using a transverse launching method.

The bridge is located on Main Road, crossing the Cogmanskloof River, connecting Ashton and Montagu, and marks the beginning of โ€œRoute 62โ€, an important tourist destination and national road. Thousands of tons of metal and concrete were moved over a 24-metre distance to replace the old bridge that was built in the 1930s.

The FOCUS and LEDSTREAM floodlights illuminate the arch of the bridge. These floodlights have been designed and manufactured in South Africa, taking the continentโ€™s harsh environmental conditions into account. Due to the nature of LED technology, high-energy savings, excellent colour rendering, a long lifetime and reduced maintenance costs will be achieved.

The bridgeโ€™s road and most of Ashtonโ€™s main roads have been upgraded with BEKA Schrรฉderโ€™s LEDLUME-MAXI. This South-African designed and manufactured LED streetlight provides all the advantages of LED technology. The LEDLUME range offers flexible combinations of LED modules, a choice of currents and dimming options to further maximise energy savings and provide the most cost-effective solution.

Montagu

Montagu is situated 12km North-East from Ashton, in the Western Little Karoo, and is a popular tourist destination. It is known for its hot mineral springs and scenic mountains and is also an agricultural centre.

BEKA Schrรฉderโ€™s ALBANY LED streetlights have been installed along Long Road. This luminaire has been chosen due to its aesthetic look. Inspired by the Victorian lanterns, the ALBANY LED streetlight luminaire is designed to bring a touch of heritage with modern technology. This classic luminaire offers quality lighting, significant energy savings and a low carbon footprint.

BEKA Schrรฉder locally develops and manufactures energy-efficient LED lighting products, designed and suitable for local conditions.

We are very proud to be associated with AECOM Cape Town and VE Reticulation in providing a successful LED lighting solution for this project.
