Chinese tech giant opens its 1st premium brand store in SA at Canal Walk with locally manufactured premium products

Hisense SA proudly announces the opening of its very first premium brand store in the country this November, located at Canal Walk Shopping Centre in Century City, Cape Town.

The launch marks a major milestone in Hisense’s 29 year journey in South Africa and reflects the brand’s ongoing commitment to bringing the latest technology and innovation closer to local consumers, at accessible price points. Luna Nortje, Deputy General Manager at Hisense SA, says the store’s launch represents more than a retail expansion, it’s a celebration of the company’s investment in local manufacturing, skills development and sustainable job creation.

“This store allows customers to experience locally made quality up close while supporting a value chain that creates jobs and transfers skills right here at home. From November, shoppers will get to enjoy exclusive in-store promotions, interactive product demonstrations, and a first look at Hisense SA’s latest premium range of locally made technology; including Africa’s largest tv, the 116 UX, proudly manufactured in Atlantis,” says Nortje.

Hisense SA’s Atlantis factory, located within the Atlantis Special Economic Zone, recently celebrated 11 years of operation. The facility employs more than a thousand South Africans and has received over R350 million in investment to date. It also announced a paid learnership programme in September, which will provide 100 young people from Atlantis with valuable hands-on experience and career development opportunities over the next year. The fcaility manufactures a wide range of Hisense televisions and home appliances for both the local and export markets, including other African countries, the UK and EU.

Hirsch’s, South Africa’s leading independently owned appliance and electronics retailer, will run operations at the Hisense store, offering customers the same professionalism, product knowledge, and support that has made Hirsch’s a household name. The Canal Walk branch will operate under the management of Julian Cupido and Tsepo Rankutu, who bring strong retail expertise and longstanding customer-centric leadership to the new venture.

Speaking on the collaboration, Hirsch’s CEO, Richard Hirsch said: “We are incredibly proud to have been chosen by Hisense to power this flagship store. We look forward to welcoming customers to experience the very latest in Hisense innovation, all backed by the trusted, old-fashioned Hirsch’s service our shoppers know and love, along with the benefits of Black Friday deals and the Hirsch’s Loyalty Card”.

The opening of the flagship store will make Hisense’s locally produced products directly available to customers in one of the country’s most visited shopping destinations. The brand store at Canal Walk officially celebrated the opening of its doors on 12 November, and now offers a space where customers can explore, test, and interact with the brand’s most advanced creations, including fridges powered by Ai, premium 4K and Mini-LED televisions you can use for competitive gaming, smart home appliances, and laser projection systems.

“From our Atlantis factory to our new flagship store at Canal Walk and now the Tevolution Museum, Hisense is building more than a brand, it’s building a legacy of accessible innovation,” adds Nortje. “Every milestone we achieve is a reflection of our belief that South Africa deserves not only the world’s best technology but the opportunity to create it.”
