Reduced fuel price brings relief to those travelling over the festive season

Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:

The announced lower fuel price over the festive period is good news and a relief for motorists and commuters travelling to several destinations. The slight relief will undoubtedly be a financial booster to workers, allowing them to enjoy their disposable income without stretching their pockets on fuel.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced that as of midnight (5 December 2023), both grades of petrol would decrease by 65c/L, while diesel consumers have cause for celebration as they will pay between 235c/L and 241c/L less on both grades, respectively, during the festive period. Illuminating paraffin will decrease by 171c/L, and LPGas will increase by 167c/kg.

Continuing with the trend seen in the last two months of the year, UASA hopes that fuel prices will gradually decrease in the new year to allow further relief for consumers. We encourage our members and fellow South Africans to be moneywise this December. Those travelling for holidays would do well to check their spending as the new year is around the corner and Janu-worryโ€™s financial expenses still lie ahead.

We hope economic challenges will ease in the new season, ensuring that affordable living becomes a reality.

We urge our members and all commuters to be vigilant, observe and obey the rules of the road over the next few weeks and into the New Year. Exercise caution at all times, avoid travel during rush hours and peak days, run errands at nearby locations, combine several car trips, and stay hydrated while on the road.

Letโ€™s all learn and adopt safe and efficient habits during the festive season and into 2024.
