SAPPMA marks milestone at 20th Annual General Meeting with renewed commitment to quality

The Southern African Plastic Pipe Manufacturersโ€™ Association (SAPPMA) celebrated a landmark occasion with the hosting of its 20th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 13 November 2024. The event highlighted SAPPMAโ€™s enduring commitment to quality, integrity, and leadership in the plastics pipe industry, a sector described by CEO Jan Venter as โ€œone of the most important in the country.โ€ย ย

Reflecting on the 2023/2024 financial year, Venter emphasised that SAPPMAโ€™s efforts have been instrumental in promoting superior standards amid South Africa’s growing water crisis, particularly in the Gauteng province. He reiterated the critical role of quality pipes and workmanship in addressing water leaks at municipal levels and ensuring reliable water infrastructure.ย ย

Highlights from the AGMย ย

  1. Focus on Quality and Accountability

Quality remains at the core of SAPPMAโ€™s mission. Members of the association subscribe to a strict Code of Conduct, and SAPPMA regularly conducts unannounced audits to ensure compliance with its guidelines and standards. A significant change to the Code of Conduct now allows for the publication of audit test results, further encouraging accountability and industry transparency.ย ย

  1. Strengthening National and SAPPMA Standards

SAPPMA continues its collaboration with the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), with representation on technical committees to align national and industry standards. The association also works closely with SANAS-accredited independent testing facilities to uphold stringent certification processes.ย ย

  1. Exclusive Membership

Membership in SAPPMA is voluntary yet exclusive, with a focus on maintaining differentiation through adherence to high-quality benchmarks. The strength of the SAPPMA brand has been affirmed by returning members and new entrants, highlighting the association’s reputation for excellence.

  1. Technical and Marketing Initiativesย

SAPPMAโ€™s Technical Committee remains a cornerstone of its operations, addressing technical and marketing challenges while reinforcing the industryโ€™s credibility.

  1. Financial Performance

SAPPMA reported positive financial results for the year, with objectives met and membership growth recorded despite economic and logistical challenges.ย ย

  1. Acknowledgments and Vision for the Future

Jan Venter expressed gratitude to SAPPMA members, the Chairman, and the Board of Directors for their support and contributions during the past year. โ€œThe strength of the SAPPMA brand is undeniable, but we must remain vigilant to ensure it continues to grow and evolve,โ€ he said.ย ย

The following Directors were elected to serve on the Board for the coming year:ย ย

Looking Aheadย ย

SAPPMAโ€™s mission remains unwavering: to ensure the long-term health of the plastics pipe industry through integrity and quality. As the countryโ€™s looming water crisis underscores the need for robust infrastructure, SAPPMAโ€™s role becomes increasingly vital.ย ย

โ€œOur work as a differentiator in the industry is far from obsolete. With the continued support of our members, we will strengthen the brand, drive innovation, and deliver the highest quality products and services,โ€ Venter concluded.ย ย
