Women led departments show support for women in construction and transport sectors

South Africa’s National Department of Human Settlements and Department of Women in the Presidency areset to participate in the 5th annual Women in Construction Awards  which will take place on 24 May 2017 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Aligned with the theme of International Women’s Day, #BeBoldForChange the Women in Construction Awards aim to acknowledge the increasingly important role women play in the built environment and also to laude the expanded roles now available to women in this industry.

Along with its sister awards, the Women in Transport Awards taking place on 17 October 2017 at the Durban International Convention Centre, these awards seek to honour women in these traditionally male-dominated industries. These women who are actively challenging the status quo  are exemplary examples of the potential and greatness possible, and we are delighted to be able to recognise them.

One of our previous winners, Noluthando Molao, Associate Director, Turner & Townsend adds “winning the award is recognition of all the hard work I’ve put in over the last ten years while building my career. I’d like to encourage other women wanting to break into the construction industry by saying that anything is possible with hard work, perseverance and a plan. It’s vital to remember no-one wins alone. I have learnt that different people have different strengths and one should be able to acknowledge this and draw from this”

The valuable contributions made by pioneers in the built environment, as well as transport infrastructure sectors, can be seen through the innovative training programme, Transport for Cape Town (TCT) by the City of Cape Town and DCG – DSM Corridor Groups women-led team.

These awards and other related initiatives forge the way in creating change and establishing gender balanced standards in industry.
