R250m upgrading and expansion for BAW South Africa

BAW South Africa, a subsidiary of Beijing Automotive Works (BAW) China that is investing a further R250million to expand and upgrade its vehicle assembly facility in Springs, has expanded its 16-seater Sasuka taxi vehicle range with the launch of a turbo diesel engine model derivative.

Yao Li Qiang from BAW said this week that there was increasing demand for cost-effective diesel options in the local taxi industry, particularly with the constant increase in fuel prices placing a lot of pressure on taxi owners.

The upgrade of the plant is on schedule to be completed this year.
