Astron Energy Development Fund and ORT SA Host Inspiring “Fueling the Future” Entrepreneurial Exchange in Bellville
The Astron Energy Development Fund (AEDF) and ORT South Africa, supported by the Western Cape Government, hosted the highly impactful Fueling the Future Entrepreneurial Exchange earlier this December at the Metropolitan in Bellville. The event brought together emerging entrepreneurs, industry experts, and programme partners for a dynamic day of learning, networking, and celebration.
A key milestone of the gathering was the graduation of the AEDF–ORT SA Level 3 beneficiaries, recognising young entrepreneurs who have completed the programme and demonstrated significant commitment to strengthening their businesses. Graduates showcased their enterprises and engaged directly with stakeholders, gaining exposure to new opportunities and potential markets.
The event featured a standout keynote address by Clive Butkow, former COO of Accenture South Africa and founder of Kalon Venture Partners. With decades of experience in global consulting and venture capital, Butkow offered valuable insights into scaling businesses, navigating investment landscapes, and developing entrepreneurial leadership.
Two panel discussions enriched the programme, featuring a selection of AEDF–ORT SA alumni and industry specialists. Entrepreneurs including Ahmed Lateef and Kaylan Petersen shared their journeys of growth and resilience. Sector experts such as Anton Ressel and Joshua Wolmarans provided practical guidance on procurement, compliance, and long-term business sustainability—equipping attendees with actionable insights.
The Western Cape Government, a key supporter of the initiative, affirmed the province’s commitment to strengthening small business development. They shared:
“Supporting businesses is central to our Growth for Jobs ambition of expanding the Western Cape economy and creating more jobs. By increasing opportunities for small businesses and helping founders turn ideas into viable enterprises that can access new markets and anchor local economic activity, we’re strengthening the foundations of a more resilient and competitive MSME sector in the province.”
The Exchange also showcased a vibrant exhibition of small businesses, providing entrepreneurs with visibility and valuable engagement with stakeholders. The atmosphere reflected a powerful sense of collaboration and an unwavering belief in the potential of South Africa’s youth.
The impact made on 3rd December is due to the collaborative efforts of so many individuals, ORTSA gave appreciation to the AEDF team, Metropolitan & Momentum , ORTSA CAPE and DEDAT for their incredible roles for this event and throughout the year.
The Fueling the Future Entrepreneurial Exchange highlighted how investment in skills, mentorship, and opportunity can transform lives and strengthen the local economy. With the continued support of partners like Astron Energy and the Western Cape Government, the programme remains a necessary support system for emerging entrepreneurs across the province.
