BPO sector in the Western Cape to host awards in October

By Larry Claasen

THE CapeBPO Awards 2026 will be held in October this year.

The announcement of these awards followed Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) becoming a major economic driver in the Western Cape, adding R24 billion annually to the province’s economy in salaries alone, and bringing in R3,6 billion in new foreign direct investment.

About 70 000 Capetonians work in BPO centres, which cater to the needs of offshore companies that subcontract various business-related operations like call centre operation to third-party sub-contractors.

The country’s “neutral” english speaking accent, and the ability of South Africans to dynamically solve problems has created a niche in the competitive global BPO market.

The emerging sector has also been a significant driver in office commercial property occupancy in the region in the post-pandemic era.

The BPO sector accounted for 60% of net office space absorption over the past 18-24 months in Cape Town and as space runs out and rentals increase, according to the Catalyst Fund Managers’ bi-annual dashboard local listed property report.

The sector has been supported by strong partnerships between the City of Cape Town, provincial government, and national government.

CapeBPO is the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape’s strategic business partner responsible for the growth and development of the BPO industry in Cape Town, the Western Cape, South Africa.

These awards were created to acknowledge and reward those within the BPO sector who have shown outstanding excellence and operational brilliance over the past year.

To help participants navigate the nomination pipeline and showcase their success, CapeBPO will be hosting a live virtual masterclass open to all prospective entrants.

The event will be held on 9 July at 11am and hosted on  Microsoft Teams.

In this Microsoft Teams session our awards team will guide participants step-by-step through the journey of submitting a nomination.

The virtual masterclass will cover:

Category Alignment: Understanding the difference between Individual and Company categories to find the perfect home for your stories.

The Criteria Breakdown: What our independent judging panel looks for when scoring submissions.

Drafting with Impact: Practical tips on how to frame your data, metrics, and human stories of dedication.

The Portal Walkthrough: A live demonstration of the online entry tool to make your submission seamless.

Live Q&A: Get direct answers to your technical and criteria-related questions.
