Cross Switch Goes Live with Absa Pay to Deliver Frictionless, Bank‑Authenticated Payments for South African Merchants

Cross Switch has gone live with Absa Pay, enabling merchants on its platform to offer customers a secure, bank‑authenticated payment option for online checkout.

When customers select Absa Pay at checkout, they are routed to a secure Absa environment to authenticate the payment directly with their bank before being returned to the merchant’s platform to complete the transaction.

This launch aligns with Cross Switch’s strategy to adopt modern, bank‑led payment methods that enhance customer trust and streamline the digital commerce experience.

Absa developed Absa Pay to provide fintechs, e‑commerce platforms, and other digital partners with a safe, authenticated way to engage with the bank through secure, API‑based systems. Its purpose is to ensure that partners can connect to Absa using trusted, bank‑controlled authentication flows, without exposing sensitive customer information on external platforms.

Through the enablement of Absa Pay, Cross Switch merchants benefit from strong customer authentication, real‑time payment confirmation, and consistent system reliability delivered through bank‑side monitoring.

The partnership also supports improved operational efficiencies, including automated reconciliation and reliable settlement processes, while giving customers a familiar and trusted bank‑authenticated payment experience.

Bank‑authenticated, account‑to‑account payment methods continue to grow in South Africa, reflecting increasing consumer confidence in secure, direct‑from‑bank transaction flows.

For merchants on the Cross Switch platform, Absa Pay can be enabled with limited additional development and integrates seamlessly alongside existing payment methods. This allows businesses to enhance the customer experience without disrupting their current payment infrastructure.

The go‑live with Absa Pay highlights Cross Switch’s ongoing commitment to interoperability, resilience, and streamlined connectivity with leading banks and payment schemes.
