Turner & Townsend wins fit out role for new German Consulate

Turner & Townsend has won the contract to fit out the new German Consulate in Roeland Park, Cape Town as part of a four-year global framework agreement for Germany’s embassies and consulates across the globe.

The project to fit out 1,500sqm of new office space is being delivered by Turner & Townsend in Munich (as principal consultant) in co-operation with the local Cape Town office. The consulate consists of a visa department including counters, waiting area and back office, as well as administration and representative areas for the consul general and ambassador.

Turner & Townsend established a relationship with Germany’s Federal Foreign Office (FFO) in 2005 and since then has been providing overall design and construction planning, as well as project management services.

The fit out projects delivered for the German FFO also includes four consulate generals in China, one in Australia, and the German Embassy in Kuwait. Turner & Townsend is currently offering a turnkey solution for the German Embassy and Goethe Institute in Jakarta, Indonesia.

“We are delighted to have been awarded the framework contract. This new win stems from a combination of our decade-long relationship with the German FFO and the part we have played in developing their global property portfolio. Our strong commercial fit-out capability further helped us to win this project,” says Ilse Boll-Loibl, Project Director, Turner & Townsend South Africa.

“A consulate is a multi-functional space and we recognise that it requires a premium location, high security and fit out standards, so that the building can serve as both the physical embodiment of a nation and a secure, modern work environment.”

Boll-Loibl went on to say that their “knowledge in this sector, worldwide presence and extensive experience, enables our teams in Germany and South Africa to work together seamlessly and deliver the best results for the client”.

A spokesperson for the German FFO’s Real Estate Division Africa adds, “We felt Turner & Townsend was the right partner, having worked with us so closely, handling all aspects of the planning, building and managing of so many of our projects.”
