Load shedding expected for Cape Town

Eskom has announced that it will implement Stage 2 load shedding on Wednesday October 16 as a result of capacity shortage.

The blackout is expected to last from 9am to 11pm in various areas across the city.

Stage 2 load shedding is implemented when the public enterprise has to free up 2 000 megawatts from the national power grid, and this is usually done during urgent maintenance or high demand.

Eskom has previously made assurances that the country would not be left in the dark after experts speculated that load shedding would be making a return in October.

During the winter, the utility was forced to implement load shedding, which reached up to stage 4 and left major parts of the country without power for weeks.
