Earthmoving equipment South Africa: DISA delivers end-to-end DEVELON solutions
By Diane Silcock
RISING operating costs, skills shortages, equipment downtime and pressure to improve safety and productivity are challenges that customers across Africa’s construction, earthmoving and material handling industries face. A company addressing these challenges is DISA Equipment, whose approach is to provide end-to-end solutions that keep construction and earthmoving equipment productive throughout the equipment lifecycle.
Customers may be tempted to purchase lower-priced machinery that offers an initial cost saving, but does it come with the equipment support, maintenance, parts availability and technical expertise needed to ensure reliability, minimise downtime and control total cost of ownership?
DISA Equipment is a South African company whose commitment extends beyond providing machines. As the official distributor in Southern Africa of DEVELON equipment (previously Doosan and prior to that Daewoo) for over 50 years, the company recently showcased its latest range of construction, earthmoving and material handling equipment at the 2026 Electra Mining show.
Cape Business News spoke to DISA Equipment’s National Sales Manager, Leon Schelvis. He explained the company’s focus on delivering complete solutions that improve productivity, reduce operating costs, enhance safety and support the long-term success of customers across mining, construction and earthmoving industries.
“We provide a combination of high-quality equipment, technical expertise, operator training, preventative maintenance programmes and responsive aftermarket support. Our focus is not only on supplying machines but also on ensuring customers achieve the best possible performance through the equipment lifecycle. We take time to understand the customer’s operating environment, production targets and budget requirements,” said Schelvis.
“We work closely with contractors, mining operations, construction companies, government entities and plant hire businesses. Each customer segment has unique requirements, and we tailor our equipment recommendations and services accordingly.”
DEVELON equipment is designed to maximise productivity, while minimising total cost of ownership, which is achieved through fuel-efficient machines, advanced hydraulic systems, robust machine components and intelligent machine management technologies.
At the show, DISA Equipment also highlighted the advances in telematics and fleet management systems that allow customers to remotely monitor performance, utilisation, maintenance schedules and operating costs in real time.
“With digital technology becoming increasingly important in our industry, we are committed to offering solutions that help our customers make data-driven decisions to improve efficiency and uptime,” Schelvis noted.
The My DEVELON digital platform enables customers to remotely monitor machines. Some of the many features include fuel consumption monitoring and the length of time a machine has been idling for. A machine can also be geofenced so that the minute it goes out of set parameters, an alarm indication is received.
A pertinent feature of the platform is its ability to send notifications when a machine requires service. This proactive approach helps both DISA Equipment and customers stay ahead of potential issues, thereby optimising uptime and ensuring that equipment remains in peak condition.
Machine training awareness forms an integral part of their customer support programme. “The objective is to improve operator competency, reduce unnecessary machine wear, enhance workplace safety and ensure equipment is used in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. Well-trained operators contribute significantly to improved productivity and reduce operating costs,” noted Schelvis.
DISA Equipment’s approach helps their customers maximise return on investment while building long-term relationships based on trust, performance and ongoing support.
DISA Equipment forms part of the Capital Equipment Group, a division of Invicta Holdings Limited.
