South Africa’s natural heritage takes the international spotlight this Heritage Day — in gold
Table Mountain and the Cape Floral Region are the focus of a new 2026 UNESCO World Heritage coin series by the historic French mint, Monnaie de Paris.
The Cape Floral Region is one of only six floral kingdoms in the world and is renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity, including thousands of plant species found nowhere else on Earth.
The new series captures this distinctly South African landscape in precious metal, with Table Mountain, the king protea and other fynbos elements featuring prominently in the design.
Rael Demby, CEO of the South African Gold Coin Exchange and The Scoin Shop, says Heritage Day is also an opportunity to celebrate the country’s natural inheritance.
“Heritage is not only about what we preserve from the past, but also what we value today and protect for future generations. The Cape fynbos is unmistakably South African, and seeing it immortalised on an international coin is something very special.”
